An Uncomforting Word

Kem Meyer was the speaker I most anticipated hearing at MinistryCom. She’s the pace-setter in ministry communications, always reminding me that my job is to clear the clutter that prevents people from encountering Christ. Her session brought me there again. You can read the highlights on her blog.
But what I appreciated even more [...]
Technology CAN Help Relationships!
Posted in Family on September 20, 2007 | 1 Comment »
So between MinistryCom and JD, I’m really getting the idea that technology can ENHANCE instead of INFRINGE UPON relationships.
I experienced this personally this week:
1. Dreadfully missing my man (my stay in Louisville extended 5 extra days due to Popper’s adventures in the hospital), we got to iChat yesterday. Couldn’t believe how much good [...]
Popper’s Low Fat Diet

Just got my Popper’s order for lunch delivery (he’s in the hospital for a few days):
1. 4 White Castle hamburgers with mustard.
2. A piece of buttermilk pie.
3. A pint of 1/2 and 1/2 to drink.
He’s 5′7, weighs 156 pounds . . . it’s okay. And I’m glad! Two cheeseburgers with [...]
When Did They Become Adults?

My northern adventures are affording me the opportunity to spend time with nieces and nephews. When did these guys become adults?
In my mind, my nephew John (pictured with his wife, Christie, and daughter, Emma Jane – my wide-eyed namesake) will always be the 8 year old punk I babysat, gave the tickle [...]
In My Brain from MinistryCom

MinistryCom stuffed my brain! The two sessions I benefited from the most were “Marketing to Multi-cultural Audiences” and “Copyright Essentials.”
Fellow Louisvillian Tracey Michae’l Lewis presented the Multi-cultural workshop with complete candor. She addressed “The Great Debate” for the church: do we denounce culture or become relevant to the culture?
Her answer not only [...]
Ministry Com – Travel Day

Can’t tell you how great it was to hug the busload of fellow communications ministers on the Fishhook bus trip down to MinistryCom. Some of my favorite folks are on this trip.
Kirsten is sick – major bummer! But my former office mate Kathy came in her place! So catching up with her [...]
Poppers

For most of my life I’ve called my father, “Poppers.” I have no idea how that got started, but I had to laugh out loud on Sunday night when, while praying during small group, Paul Smoot prayed to God for “Poppers.”
Well Poppers took me to lunch today before dropping me off for MinistryCom. [...]
A Double Family Reunion
Posted in What I'm Up To on September 11, 2007 | 2 Comments »
While I’m loving the new adventures of Miami, I very much look forward to a taste of “home” as I head to two great “reunions” this week:
MINISTRYCOM
MinistryCom brings together the biggest brains in church communications. Fishhook is loading up a bus of Indianapolis church communications directors for the trip to Nashville. I’m flying [...]
The Wisdom of Matt Mehaffey
Posted in What I'm Up To on September 10, 2007 | 2 Comments »
Matt is so good for me. If left on my own, I would work all the time . . . feeling guilty whenever I enjoy fun or relaxation while there are still items on the “to-do” list.
Matt makes me vacate. He sees the stressed-out, “How am I going to get all this stuff [...]
